Alisdair Pettigrew, Managing Director of Blue Communications, lead two high level industry roundtables, held in January and March, focused around the flow of capital into innovative technology solutions hosted by the Carbon War Room and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London.
The discussions were shaped by influential industry stakeholders including Cargill, Zodiac Maritime, Parhelion Underwriters, Wartsila, KfW bank, DK Group, Skysails, NAPA and International Paint and were designed to provoke a unique opportunity to explore practical, market-based and economically viable financing solutions to the retrofitting of eco-efficient technologies to ships through re-examining the existing market structure and business models.
The outcome of the day was the formation of a working group that encompasses stakeholders across the entire shipping supply chain with the view to formulating an agreement for a new type of commercial deal to take forward as a model for the shipping industry which should be ready to be announced, alongside Sir Richard Branson, at the Rio+20 Summit in June.
BLUE is in its third year of working with the Carbon War Room and, as a consultant, Alisdair is responsible for its Shipping Operation alongside the Carbon War Room’s Chief Operating Officer, Peter Boyd, which has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2009. BLUE also provides PR support for all the Carbon War Room’s “active operations” in Europe.
