ALISDAIR PETTIGREW, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF BLUE COMMUNICATIONS, WAS AT THE HELM OF AN IMPASSIONED SHIPPING DEBATE SHAPED BY INFLUENTIAL INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS INCLUDING INTERTANKO, MAERSK LINE, KFW BANK, KPMG, FUTURESHIP AND BP SHIPPING DURING THE CARBON WAR ROOM’S LATEST SUMMIT, HELD AT UCL IN LONDON.

A strong call to action came early in the conference proceedings from Jigar Shah, CEO of the Carbon War Room who placed Forum for the Future’s climate statistics regarding the need to reduce the 768g of CO2 it took to produce $1 of GDP in 2007 to just 6g of CO2 in order to ensure current climate stabilization, front and centre in the minds of the high level attendees for the duration of the event.

The two-days of shipping-related discussion focused around the stimulation of capital flow and implementable methods for the shipping industry to reach for the “Money on the table” the $70bn in ‘locked in’ profitability for improved efficiency that exists within the industry.

Alisdair and his fellow co-chairs, Tristan Smith, Research Associate, UCL and Low Carbon Shipping Consortium and Oliver Pereira, Sustainability Advisor, KPMG, were commended for their outstanding expertise and leadership skills demonstrated – ensuring that the lively debate was effectively navigated and shaped into a ‘road map’ of actions for further strategic development by the Shipping Operation.

BLUE is in its third year of working with the Carbon War Room and, as a consultant, Alisdair is responsible for its Shipping Operation alongside the Carbon War Room’s Chief Operating Officer, Peter Boyd, which has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2009. BLUE also provides PR support for all the Carbon War Room’s “active operations” in Europe
