Achilles delivers global enterprise-wide risk management programs for suppliers, contractors, and service providers. The company is accredited by the UK government under the Climate Change Act 2008 to provide routes to compliance for carbon (CRC) and energy (ESOS and SECR) regulations. The Achilles Carbon Reduce Scheme is the only accredited carbon reduction program in Europe that independently measures and reduces an organisation’s carbon footprint while meeting all stakeholder reporting requirements. Having previously collaborated with BLUE’s business partner, Shirley Chick, on other client projects, Achilles’s board of directors invited us to contribute our event expertise to an inaugural B2B conference.
Headed by Shirley Chick, BLUE’s business partner, an event was developed to educate sustainability leaders on achieving carbon reduction goals and meeting emission disclosure requirements – critical as less than 20% of businesses possessing a net-zero plan. Achilles Carbon Reduce conferences feature cross-industry sessions, including Environment, Social & Governance (ESG), providing insights from sustainability leaders and industry experts. Attendees were given the opportunity to learn how to create actionable carbon reduction plans based on the experiences of those who have already achieved success. The core challenge was to equip the audience with risk mitigation strategies and demonstrate how to leverage planning technology to drive business growth.
Audience engagement was a key focus throughout the event, with online polling used to gather feedback during each session. In terms of ROI, post-event feedback revealed that 91% of attendees reported an 88% increase in their motivation to work with Achilles because of attending the conference.
The approach is characterised by the integration of incremental steps within a comprehensive low-carbon event strategy. This included selecting a venue committed to minimising its emissions. The conference featured an awards ceremony that recognised achievements in various sectors. In a departure from traditional crystal plaques, bonsai trees were chosen as individual awards. Digital projection was used extensively, and bamboo fabric was used for pull-up banners. The event also featured locally sourced English sparkling wine and an exclusively vegetarian menu.
