Organised by BLUE, TOTAL Lubmarine recently held an event in London to update the shipping community on the latest developments in marine lubricants and encourage open discussion on the effects of environmental regulation.
Attendees included TOTAL Lubmarine’s customers and prospects, industry journalists and representatives from maritime organisations, many of whom were invited through BLUE’s network of contacts.
The event opened with presentations from TOTAL Lubmarine, which not only provided insight into the current state of the maritime market, but also into the chemistry behind the company’s next generation single-oil solutions.
The presentations were followed by an open panel discussion titled: “Environmental Regulations: Ensuring safe passage for market in transition.” Panelists included Jean-Philippe Roman, TOTAL Lubmarine’s technical director, David Balston, director – safety and environment for the UK Chamber of Shipping, Dag Olav Halle, principal consultant at DNV Petroleum Services and Robin Meech, managing director of Marine and Energy Consulting.
BLUE’s own managing director, Alisdair Pettigrew, chaired the discussion and ensured the conversation flowed freely by directing questions from the audience and drawing out current and future concerns. The main topics of interest centred around lubricant selection, single-oil solutions, the role of legislation as an enabler of change and Vessel General Permit (VGP) compliance.
The event concluded with a drinks reception where points raised during the formal discussion were explored further and industry colleagues caught up with one another, as well as making new acquaintances.
Environmental regulations, variable steaming, varying sulphur content in fuels and new engine technology are all putting pressure on ship owners and operators to find the right lubricant that can ensure consistent performance. As a pioneer in marine lubricants, TOTAL Lubmarine remains committed to supporting the industry through dedicated research and development, furthering discussion around single oil solutions and being unafraid to challenge the status quo.
