Another successful year of networking and knowledge sharing for BLUE, its clients and PR support at Nor-Shipping 2015
Every other year, Nor Shipping is a significant week in the shipping industry’s diary. As the event marked it’s 50th anniversary, once again the global gathering in Oslo brought together a diverse mix of professionals to network and progress discussions on some of shipping’s most pressing issues. The traction on the event’s Twitter feed also piqued interest in the week’s developments from those who could not attend in person.
Several members of the BLUE team were busy providing PR support on the ground at Nor-Shipping for clients including the UK Hydrographic Office, NAPA, Carbon War Room, and our latest new client, United Technologies on a variety of briefs spanning media relations, speaking engagements and stakeholder meetings.
At the opening conference Carbon War Room’s Chairman of The Board, Jose Maria Figueres, presented the Nor-Shipping Young Entrepreneur award to Boyan Slat for his project to clean up refuse from the bottom of the world’s oceans. BLUE’s managing director Alisdair Pettigrew also spoke at the Ocean Industry Podium conference in his role as senior advisor to Carbon War Room’s shipping operation.
Additionally, we assisted the UKHO as they shared their latest data on the readiness of the global tanker fleet for the SOLAS regulations on ECDIS carriage that take effect next month, as well as explaining the impending changes to the technical standards for digital charts. BLUE was also pleased to introduce United Technologies to a number of journalists as the company begins introducing integrated offerings to the marine market from its four businesses Autronica, Marioff, Carrier and OTIS.
Providing PR and network engagement support at Nor-Shipping is always both exhilarating and exhausting and this year was no exception. In addition to fantastic evenings at the DNV BBQ and Tradewinds parties catching up with contacts old and new, our senior consultant, Simon Phillips kicked off the week by joining the picturesque 5KM Nor-Run, raising a healthy sum for the excellent cause, Mission to Seafarers.
Whilst we will inevitably see many familiar faces at coming events, we’re already looking forward to reconvening in 2017 and hope that there will be lots of positive industry progress to reflect on when we meet again at Nor-Shipping.
