With BLUE’s support, a group of shipping companies, NGOs and technologists convened in London to launch their vision for the shipping industry in 2040 to journalists, industry influencers and wider stakeholders.

The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) – brought together by Forum for the Future – is a groundbreaking exercise that has united some of the biggest players in the global shipping industry, including Maersk Line, BP Shipping, Carnival Corporation, DSME, ABN Amro & Unilever. The four-stage initiative has been designed to help the industry make long-term plans for future success.

SSI enlisted BLUE to support the launch and raise awareness of its Vision 2040 statement – a shared vision of an industry in 2040 that is resilient, profitable and socially and environmentally responsible. The organisation also announced its first set of practical work streams, through which it hopes to take the necessary steps to make Vision 2040 a reality.

The event on the 31st of October was a resounding success. By leveraging BLUE’s extensive stakeholder and media networks, turnout left standing-room-only in the presentation room. The launch also received global coverage right across the shipping and environmental media.
