BLUE joined over 170 maritime industry experts at this year’s Sustainable Shipping Awards on Thursday 7th July 2011.
Now in its third year and held at the Radisson Blue Hotel in London’s Mayfair, the awards recognise those in the marine industry taking leading roles in improving the impact on the environment.
Three of BLUE’s clients – Total Lubmarine, International Paint and The Carbon War Room – were shortlisted for these increasingly prestigious awards, re-enforcing their outstanding contributions within their specialist fields and their commitment to environmental initiatives.
The focus of this year’s awards was to recognise those who have dedicated their time and money to help shipping reduce its carbon footprint, and to encourage others to get involved.
The awards ceremony was opened by Yvo De Boer, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Special Global Advisor, Climate Change and Sustainability at KPMG. The proceedings were compered by leading environmentalist Jonathan Porritt, Founder Director of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission.
Amongst the notable winners was Andreas Chrysostomou, the current chairman of IMO’s Marine Environment Committee, who was recognised for his outstanding contribution to sustainable shipping.
Alisdair Pettigrew, managing director, BLUE commented: “BLUE has attended all three Sustainable Shipping Awards ceremonies and the calibre of nominees and attendees continues to impress. Not only does the event celebrate the efforts of those pioneering environmental initiatives for the shipping industry, it also recognises the contribution of environmentally sustainable operations to positive business performance. We look forward to seeing more of our clients involved next year!”
